My journey from Rock Springs heading east across all of Wyoming first led me to Points of Rocks, where the remnants of a stagecoach station are located. This station was roughly halfway along the route from east to west. Due to a lack of other options, I spent this part of the trip on Interstate 80. That’s how I reached Cheyenne and then Pine Bluffs. From there, I continued on Highway 30, which used to be called the Lincoln Highway — the first road to connect both coasts of the United States.

In Nebraska, I stopped at Buffalo Bill’s ranch, which William “Buffalo Bill” Cody established here while touring the world with his show Buffalo Bill’s Wild West. Along the way, I encountered many references to the journey from the east and the gradual settlement of these lands. Otherwise, the trip through Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois all the way to Chicago was a ride through endless fields of corn and soybeans. Occasionally, there was a town or village, but it wasn’t a problem to find a gas station every 200 km. So, there’s not much to write on here.

Everything changed as I started approaching Chicago. Traffic density increased more than 50 km before reaching the city, and there were noticeably more people everywhere. I just passed through the city itself. Even on a Sunday, there were lots of people, cars, traffic lights, and police, so I just weaved through the downtown area and kept going. I didn’t want to leave my motorcycle parked somewhere with all my belongings, and I didn’t really feel like staying overnight. The last big city I passed through like this was Quebec — and that was over a month ago. I only briefly visited Montreal, so this was quite a shock. 😊

Now I’m heading toward Boston. On the way, I should encounter the start of the North-East BDR (Backcountry Discovery Route) in New York State, which I want to explore. It leads all the way to the Canadian border, but we’ll see how far I get and how challenging it will be. Time is slowly running out, and we’ll also see what the weather has to say about it.
